Ellen V. (Hannula) Fitzgerald, 86, of 12 High Street, Templeton, died peacefully Wednesday, January 7, 2015 in Wachusett Manor Nursing Home, Gardner, following a brief illness.
Born in Templeton on May 31, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Toivo and Fannie O. (Botman) Hannula.
Ellen graduated from the former Templeton High School with the Class of 1946. She later attended Mount Wachusett Community College of Gardner.
Ellen was the bookkeeper for the Templeton Council on Aging for twelve years, retiring in 2011. She was previously the office manager for Royal Steam Heater of Gardner.
She was a member of the E. Templeton Methodist Church.
Ellen enjoyed dancing, sewing, crocheting and traveling. She also enjoyed spending time on the computer. She was an avid golfer, and former member of the Westminster Country Club.
Ellen leaves her husband of nearly 68 years, Leon A. Fitzgerald of Templeton; one son, John W. Fitzgerald and his wife Carol of Omaha, Nebraska; one daughter, Kristine M. Ronn and her husband Wayne of Templeton; two brothers, Roland Hannula and his wife Roberta of New York City and David Hannula and his wife Evelyn of Tewksbury; one sister, Martha Koukanen and her husband Markku of Westminster; one sister-in-law, Clara Hannula of Westminster; one brother-in-law, Wes Landry of Ashburnham; seven grandchildren, Sean Fitzgerald, Adam Fitzgerald, Nicholas Fitzgerald, Abigail Fitzgerald, Eric Ronn, Brian Ronn and Karla Hakkila; two great-grandchildren, Dylan and Jordyn Hakkila; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by two brothers, Victor Hannula and Henry Hannula; and by one sister, Barbara Landry.
Graveside Services will be held Friday, January 16th at 2:00 p.m. in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen Street, Winchendon.
