Elizabeth “Betty” E. (Blake) Meany, 87, of Gardner, died unexpectedly Saturday, February 12, 2022, in her home.
Born in Gardner on November 21, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Walter J. and Georgianna (Girouard) Blake. She received her GED in 1987. Betty was a Receptionist employed by Barkley & Dexter of Fitchburg for 5-years prior to her retirement in 1992.
Betty was a parishioner of the former Sacred Heart of Jesus Church of Gardner and Annunciation Parish/ Holy Spirit Chapel of Gardner. She was a member and past president of the American Legion Post 129 Women’s Auxiliary of Gardner and a Den Mother for Boy Scouts of America. Betty enjoyed playing BINGO and computer games. She loved to travel, especially down to Florida during the winter months. Her great joy came when she was with her family, where she always treasured time spent with them.
Betty is survived by her husband of 69-years, John W. Meany of Gardner; four sons, John W. Meany Jr. and his wife Diane of Gardner, William J. Meany and his wife Carolyn of Gardner, Philip A. Meany and his significant other Janet Baczewski of Gardner, David B. Meany and his wife Noreen of Gardner; six grandchildren, John W. Meany, III and his wife Angela, Megan Meany and her fiancé Esteban Gonzalez, Leah and Serena Meany, Angela Diprima-Boudreau and her husband Douglas, and Derek Gaidanowicz and his significant other Michelle Frigon, seven great-grandchildren, Sophia and Aubree Meany, Luca Gonzalez, Alex Wirth, Emily Diprima, Hunter and Maxwell Gaidanowicz; a sister, Rita M. Madden of Las Vegas, NV; an aunt, Jeanne Pollastri of Gardner; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was predeceased by one son, Thomas H. Meany; two sisters, Joan E. Jedlicka and Patricia C. Blake; and a brother Franklin “Del” Girouard.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, February 17, 2022, with a Mass at 10:00 a.m. in Annunciation Parish at Holy Spirit Chapel, 50 Lovewell Street, Gardner, MA. Burial will follow at Wildwood Cemetery, West Street, Gardner, MA. All those in attendance are asked to report directly to the church on the day of the service.
Calling Hours will be held Wednesday, February 16, 2022, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner, MA.
