Elias "Dusty" Ormsby, 87, of Gardner, died peacefully Saturday, February 11, 2017 in Gardner Rehabilitation and Nursing Center of Gardner, following a brief illness.
Born in Glen Falls, NY on March 17, 1929, he was the son of the late George and Rose (Pixley) Ormsby.
Elias was a United States Korean War Army Veteran, and received the Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Army Commendation Ribbon with Metal Pendant, and the National Defense Service Medal with 3 Bronze Service Stars and 2 Overseas Bars.
Elias was employed by Heywood Wakefield Company of Gardner as a laborer for several years, retiring in 1995.
He was a member of the First Congregational Church of Gardner. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 129 of Gardner and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 747 of Gardner.
Elias enjoyed reading, and he loved walking throughout the city of Gardner always wearing his cowboy hat.
Elias was predeceased by his wife of 16 years, Pamela J. (Rose) Ormsby, who died in 2007.
He leaves one daughter, Marcia Abare of Shirley; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his two sons, James and Michael Ormsby.
Funeral Services and burial will be held Wednesday, March 1st at 2:00 p.m. in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen Street, Winchendon.
There are no calling hours.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
