Eleanor R. "Ellie" (Dehais) Ufnal, 80, of 153 Willis Road, Gardner, died peacefully Saturday, January 3, 2014, in her daughter Barbara's home, following a long illness.
Born in Worcester on November 12, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Alcide and Helen (King) Dehais.
She graduated from St. Peters High School of Worcester in 1952, and later earned her Associates Degree in Liberal Arts from Mount Wachusett Community College of Gardner.
Eleanor was employed by the Internal Revenue Service of Fitchburg as a data processor for several years, retiring in 1998. She was previously employed by the former J.C. Penney Company of Gardner.
Eleanor was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church of Gardner. She was also a member of AARP.
She enjoyed line dancing, playing the piano, reading, gardening and going to York Beach, Maine. She loved traveling abroad and treasured spending time with her family.
Eleanor was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Henry K. Ufnal, who died February 5, 2011.
She leaves two sons, Retired USAF Major Michael H. Ufnal and his wife Karen of Milford, NH and Joseph M. Ufnal of Gardner; four daughters, Mary Lou Hopun and her husband Javier of Beavercreek, OH, Barbara H., Crete and her husband Jason of Gardner, Carolyn J. Tobia and her husband Geoffrey of Westminster and Diane M. Ufnal and her significant other, Tony Pilat of Rindge, NH; one brother, Richard Dehais and his wife Eileen of Wappingers Falls, NY; eleven grandchildren, Courtney Southwick, Stephen Ufnal, Emily Wolcott, Matthew Crete, Elizabeth Crete, Alyssa Hopun, Alexandra Hopun, Amanda Hopun, Geoffrey Tobia, Jack Tobia and Kassandra Rondeau; six great-grandchildren, Joseph Perez-Crete, Giannalys Cabrera-Crete, Elismari Cabrera-Crete, Kazmiera Norton, Audrey Wolcott and Hunter Wolcott; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Eleanor also leaves her two close friends and traveling companions, Joanne LeBlanc and Elizabeth Swenson. She was predeceased by her brother, John Dehais.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, January 7th from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner with a Mass at 11:00 a.m. in Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols Street, Gardner. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Gardner.
Calling hours will be Tuesday, January 6th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
