Eleanor R. "Ellie" (Carew) Smolinsky, 82, of 19 Wood Path, Ashburnham, died peacefully Monday, August 1, 2011 in the Legend Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing, Gardner following a brief illness.
Eleanor was born in Boston on January 5, 1929, the daughter of the late Charles T. and Gertrude V. (Doyle) Carew.
Prior to retiring in 1991, she was a housekeeper employed by Embassy Nursing Home in Brockton for 10 years.
Eleanor graduated from Mission High School in Boston with the Class of 1947.
She enjoyed spending time in lower Naukeag Lake, shopping, reading and doing crafts, including ceramics. Eleanor most enjoyed spending time with her family.
She leaves her husband of 59 years, John G. Smolinsky of Ashburnham; three sons, John C. Smolinsky and his wife Sharon of Wareham, Stephen T. Smolinsky and his wife Michelle of Ashburnham and Thomas J. Smolinsky and his wife Wendy of Ashburnham; one brother, James Carew of Boston; one sister, Patricia "Patsy" McNeil and her husband John of Manomet, MA; six grandchildren, Michele Hesketh, Lauren Nagel, Sandra Wall, Jody O'Day, Kara Smolinsky and Daniel Smolinsky; five great-grandchildren, Nathaniel Wall, Cora Wall, Jake O'Day, Ellison O'Day and Kellan O'Day; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by five brothers, Joseph, Paul, Walter, Charles "Bobby" and William Carew.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, August 5th at 9:00 a.m. in the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner. Burial will be in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen Street, Winchendon.
Calling hours in the funeral home will be Thursday, August 4th from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
