Edward I. "Satch" Stromski, 78, of Gardner died unexpectedly Wednesday, November 23, 2011 in Heywood Hospital, Gardner, shortly after being stricken ill at home.
Born in Gardner on March 31, 1933, he was the son of the late Ignacy and Teresa (Gabriel) Stromski.
Mr. Stromski was a Certified Public Accountant and Director of Corporate Operations and Auditing last employed by Simplex Time Recorder Co. of Gardner for 31 years until retiring in 1998. He was previously an International Controller for the company.
Ed was a 1951 graduate of Gardner High School. During his high school years, he was a member of the Gardner High School Wildcat Football, Baseball and Basketball Teams. In 1950 he played on the State Class B. Champion Football Team. He attended the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester on a Football Scholarship, and received a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree in 1955. He completed refresher courses at Bentley College in Waltham in preparation for the C.P.A. exam, and in 1962 was certified by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as a Public Accountant. He was an Accountant for many local non-profit organizations, and volunteered to help Senior Citizens with their finances. He was the first Treasurer of the Pop Warner Football League and also coached several youth sports.
Mr. Stromski was a member of St. Joseph's Church of Gardner. He was Treasurer of the Chair City Club, Chairman of the Board at Heywood Hospital, was a member of the Polish American Veterans of Greater Gardner, the Polish American Citizens Club, the Management Institute of Accountants, and the Gardner Museum.
Ed was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox, the New England Patriots and the Boston Celtics. He enjoyed watching television, especially Law & Order, CSI, Animal Planet and The Discovery Channel. In his spare time when he was not volunteering, he liked to work on jigsaw puzzles and watch movies. His passion was playing golf, bridge and poker. He enjoyed spending time at Foxwoods, Mohegan Sun and Las Vegas, but his greatest pleasure came from spending time with his family.
Mr. Stromski was a Captain in United States Air Force from 1956 to 1958.
He leaves his wife of 56 years, Barbara L. (Rembisiewski) Stromski of Gardner; 2 sons, Dr. Michael E. Stromski and his wife Susan of Melrose, John W. Stromski and his wife Kelli of Wakefield; a daughter, Judith A. Orcutt and her husband Caleb of Guilford, CT; 11 grandchildren, John Caleb, Christian, Samuel, Daniel, Rachel, Joseph and Benjamin Orcutt, Matthew, Steven, Liam and Jack Stromski; one great-granddaughter, Lucy Orcutt; a sister-in-law, Eeva Stromski of Gardner; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a brother, Joseph J. Stromski.
According to his wishes, his body has been donated to science at the University of Massachusetts Medical School in Worcester.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, December 10th from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols St., Gardner with a Mass at 11:00 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church, 358 Pleasant St., Gardner. Burial will be in the MA Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Winchendon, at a later date.
Calling hours in the funeral home will be Friday, December 9th from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
