Edward J. Richard, 82, of 259 South Road, Templeton, died Monday, September 10th in Umass University Campus Hospital, Worcester, following a long illness.
He was born in Rexton N.B. Canada on February 9, 1925, the son of the late Frank and Julia (O'Brien) Richard.
Edward was a self-employed Mason. He was previously employed by Heywood Wakefield and Standard Chair of Gardner, and also Phillip Brooks Construction of Templeton.
Mr. Richard was a member of Holy Cross Church, East Templeton. He was a member of the Canadian Legion from 1943 - 1946. He enjoyed playing bingo, going to Foxwoods Casino, horse racing, watching sports on television, and he loved to eat. Mr. Richard loved to travel, especially to Florida, Las Vegas and the beaches.
Edward was predeceased by his wife, Barbara J. (LaLiberte) Richard who died in 1997.
He leaves two sons, Michael E. Richard and his wife Debbie, and Thomas A. Richard and his wife Cindy all of Templeton; five daughters, Sandra E. Robichaud of Templeton, Sharon A. Hamel and her husband Ron of Gardner, Jeanne M. Harper and her husband John of Keene, NH, Cathy J. Meunier and her husband Dennis of Winchendon and Tracy L. Clark and her husband Jeffrey of Hubbardston; 22 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a son Robert Richard who died in 1958, a son-in-law John Robichaud; 5 brothers, Pascal, William, Daniel, Patrick and Frank; and 4 sisters, Exilda Vautour, Osite LeBlanc, Freda Beck and Mary Richard.
According to his wishes, Mr. Richards body has been donated to the Harvard University School of Anatomical Studies.
A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, September 13th at 10:00 a.m. in Holy Cross Church, East Templeton. Burial will be at a later date in Wildwood Cemetery, Gardner.
