Edward C. Hamel, 89, of 72 Emerald St., Gardner where he has lived for the past 60 years, died Thursday, January 13th in Heywood Hospital, Gardner, following an illness.
Born in Leominster on April 26, 1915, he was the son of Adelard J. and Albina (Babineau) Hamel.
He was a self-employed contractor until retiring in 1977.
Eddie was a member of Mission Street Congregational Church who loved his church and its people. He was an avid bingo player.
His wife, Edith M. (Gingras) Hamel died in 1975.
He leaves 2 sons, Henry Hamel and wife Phyllis of Winchendon, Raymond Hamel and friend Glenna Masure of Baldwinville; 8 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a brother Charles A. Hamel of Las Vegas, NV.
The funeral will be held Tuesday, January 18th from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols St. with a service at 2:00 p.m. in the Mission Street Congregational Church, Mission St., Gardner. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Gardner.
Calling hours at the funeral home are Monday, January 17th from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
