Edward J. "Unc" Duval, 84, of 81 Fairlawn Avenue, Gardner died peacefully, Saturday, January 10th in Heywood Hospital, Gardner following a brief illness.
Born in Gardner on September 23, 1924, he was the son of the late Odilon and Yvonne M. (Boivin) Duval.
Prior to retiring, he was a machinist employed by Collier Keyworth of Gardner for several years. For most of his adult life he was a machinist employed by McKnight Manufacturing Co. of Gardner.
Edward was a graduate of Gardner High School, Gardner with the Class of 1942. In 1943, he received a certificate in Machine Technology from Worcester Vocational Technical Institute, Worcester.
Edward was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, Gardner. He was a member of the Gardner Lodge of Elks #1426.
"Unc" was best known for his wit and charm, most especially enjoying the care and attention he received from the Heywood Hospital and Transitional Care Unit nurses and staff. He enjoyed yard work, reading, ham radio and watching television, with his main interest revolving around politics, the economy and finance. He took much pride in his work as a mechanist and at his home.
Though he had no children of his own, he was loved and cared for during these last few difficult years by his nieces, nephews, grand-nephew and close friends. He will be greatly missed by many.
Edward was predeceased by his loving wife of 42 years, Rose D. (Bernier) Duval, who died October 8, 2006. He was also predeceased by three sisters, Lucille Ohlson, Jean Gandy and Suzanne Orre.
Funeral services will be held Friday, January, 16th from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner with a Mass at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols Street, Gardner. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Gardner.
Calling hours in the funeral home will be Thursday, January 15th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to Heywood Hospital Patient Care Fund, 242 Green Street, Gardner, MA 01440. This fund will provide educational development opportunities for those who cared so well for him.
