Edmond E."Ed" Roy

August 11, 1925 — April 10, 2009

Edmond E. "Ed" Roy, 83, of 739 Daniel Shays Highway, Athol, died peacefully Friday, April 10th in Quabbin Valley Health Care, Athol, following an illness.

Ed was born in Gardner on August 11, 1925, the son of the late Edmond and Orianna (Fleurant) Roy.

Prior to retiring in 1985, he was employed for 10 years by Simplex Time Recorder, Gardner, as a Supervisor. He previously worked for Shields Construction Co. of Southbridge, MA for many years.

Ed graduated from Gardner High School, Gardner with the Class of 1943.

He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Church in Athol.

Ed was a United States WWII Army Veteran, and received the Good Conduct Medal, the Victory Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon, the American Theater Campaign Ribbon and the Distinguished Unit Badge W/OLC GO 13 Dec XV1 HQ 20 AAF 46.

Ed enjoyed golfing, playing cards, traveling and playing shuffleboard. He was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and the N.E. Patriots, and enjoyed watching them on television.

He leaves his wife of 65 years, Edith R. (Smith) Roy of Athol; one son, Richard A. Roy and his wife Deborah A. of Salem, NH; one daughter-in-law, Mary-Ann Roy of Littleton; one brother, Jean Roy and his wife Priscilla of Gardner; one sister, Theresa Kullmann and her husband Kenneth of Fitchburg; seven grandchildren, Richard Roy, Lisa Roy, Andrew Roy, Daniel Berry, Thomas, Berry, Gregory Roy and Jeffrey Roy; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by one son, David Roy who died in 2001; one daughter, Susan M. Berry who died in 2000; and by five brothers, Ernest, Leon, Armand, Rene and Joseph Roy; and two sisters, Yvonne Bernard and Gertrude LeBlanc.

Funeral services will be held Friday, April 17th at 10:00 a.m. in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 101 Main Street, Athol. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Gardner.

There are no calling hours.
