Edmond J. LaPlante Sr., 81, of Gardner, died peacefully Sunday, March 19, 2023, in Heywood Hospital, Gardner.
Born in Gardner on March 9, 1942, he was the son of the late Gerard and Rose (Zysk) LaPlante. He graduated from Gardner High School with the Class of 1959 and from Becker College with the Class of 1963. Edmond was a United States Navy Vietnam Era Veteran serving from 1961 to 1965 until being honorably discharged. He was a Cost Accountant employed by C&W Fabricators for many years prior to his retirement. Edmond was also a Notary Public for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
Edmond was a parishioner of Annunciation Parish of Gardner, where he practiced at its Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church. He was a member of the Trout Club of Gardner, the Fishing Club, the Deep-Sea Club of Gardner, and the Templeton Fish and Game Club of Templeton. Edmond enjoyed playing golf every morning at Gardner Municipal Golf Course and watching baseball. He loved his dog Rockie and went for walks with him frequently at Mount Wachusett Community College.
Edmond is survived by his two sons, Edmond LaPlante Jr. of Richmond, NH, and Scott LaPlante of Gardner; a daughter Denise Gentile and her husband Sean of Shirley; five grandchildren, Shane, Ricki, and Brooke LaPlante, Caitlyn Gentile, and Finnley Higgins; and a great-grandchild, Gunner LaPlante.
Graveside Services with Military Honors will be held Friday, April 28, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. in Notre Dame Cemetery, West Street, Gardner, MA.
