Earl F. Griffin, 81, of 85 Ken Drive, Gardner, died Friday, May 8, 2015 in The Reservoir Center for Health and Rehabilitation of Marlborough, following a long illness.
Born in Revere on October 25, 1933, he was the son of the late William and Mercia (Chainey) Griffin.
Earl graduated from Revere High School with the Class of 1951. He earned his Bachelor's Degree in Business from Tufts University in 1955.
He was a member of the Army National Guard from 1952 thru 1955.
He was the owner of Turners Falls IGA for several years, retiring in 1991. He was previously a manager for several Iandoli's Supermarkets throughout Worcester County.
Earl was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church of Gardner. He was also a member and past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus Council #396 of Gardner.
He was an avid football fan who was a former coach for Gardner Pop Warner, was past President of NCCOFA and also spent many years as a clock operator for Division I College Football. Earl loved spending time with his family and treasured his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He leaves his wife of 59 years, MaryAnne (Fonzi) Griffin of Gardner; six sons, E. Patrick Griffin and his wife Tina of Gardner, Michael C. Griffin of Gardner, Kevin A. Griffin and his wife Judy of Gardner, Paul C. Griffin and his wife Elizabeth of Groveland, MA, John W. Griffin and his wife Vivien of Stockton, CA, Matthew J. Griffin of Jacksonville, FL; three daughters, Kathryn M. Peelen and her husband John of Falmouth, Maine, Martha A. Munhall and her husband Patrick of Eliot, Maine and Mary A. Jost and her husband Jessie of Hampton, NH; one sister, Anne Lonergan of Pocasset, MA; nineteen grandchildren, Ryan, Jaime, Ashley, Alexandra, Nicholas, Kelly, Sean, Timothy, Olivia, Luke, John, Molly, Cullen, Garrett, Liam, Griffin, Cooper, Jack and Lindsay; four great-grandchildren, Cian, Elijah, Jackson and Tucker; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by one son, Peter F. Griffin who died in 1966.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, May 15th at 11:00 a.m. in Sacred Heart of Jesus Christ Church, 166 Cross Street, Gardner. Burial will be in held at a later date.
