Dorothy L. (Carter) Cormier, 86, of 125 Connors St., Gardner, died peacefully Saturday, February 14th in Heywood Hospital, Gardner.
Born in Leominster on October 8, 1922, she was the daughter of George and Hazel (Huckins) Carter.
Dorothy was a Registered Nurse employed at Leominster Hospital, Leominster for several years until retiring in 1995. She was previously an ombudsman for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. She was formerly a Registered Nurse employed by the late Dr. Rocco Raduazo of Gardner for 19 years.
Mrs. Cormier was a 1941 graduate of Leominster High School and attended Leominster School of Nursing. In 1978 she received her Associates Degree in Science and also received her Registered Nursing Degree in 1981 both from the Mount Wachusett Commmunity College in Gardner.
Dorothy was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church and was a volunteer for the American Cancer Society. She enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, playing cards, watching cooking channels on television and especially loved being with her family.
Her husband of 42 years, Oscar J. Cormier, died in 1988.
She leaves a son, Stephen E. Cormier and his wife Patricia L. of Gardner; a daughter, Kathleen M. LaFreniere and her husband Michael J. of Athol; a sister, Emma C. Ryburn of Gardner; 5 grandchildren, Jeffrey and Laura Cormier, Christopher and Mindy O'Rourke, and Adam Weldon; 5 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by a brother, George Carter and 3 sisters, Mary Paine, Hazel Graham and Marjorie Pochini.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 18th with a Mass at 11:00 a.m. in Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols St., Gardner. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Gardner.
There are no calling hours.
Flowers are to be omitted. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
