Dorothy M"Dot" Allain

Dorothy M. "Dot"(Richardson) Allain, 88, who resided at 288 Lovewell Street, Gardner for the past 49 years, died peacefully Friday, February 25, 2011 in Heywood Hospital, Gardner surrounded by her family following a brief illness.
Born in S. Ashburnham on April 11, 1922, she was the daughter of the late John and Mabel (Stone) Richardson.
Dorothy was a Licensed Practical Nurse employed for 20 years at Eastwood Pines Nursing Home in Gardner, retiring in 1985. She was previously employed at Parker Hill Nursing Home and Waller Rest Home in Gardner.
Dorothy was a member of Holy Spirit Church, Gardner.
She enjoyed playing cards, knitting and crocheting. Dorothy was an avid gardener of both flowers and vegetables, and always wore her sun hat while gardening. Her favorites television shows were "Jeopardy" and "Wheel of Fortune". In years past, she enjoyed watching Lawrence Welk, Arthur Godfrey and Art Linkletter on television. Dorothy loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them.
She leaves her husband of 65 years, Donat J. Allain, Sr. of Gardner; three sons, Donat J. "Skip" Allain, Jr. of Boynton, FL, Dennis A. Allain of Gardner and Douglas G. Allain of Gardner; two daughters, Donna L. Allain of Gardner and Darlene M. Sumner and her husband Kenneth of Gardner; one special sister, Elsie Ayer of Templeton; three grandchildren, Christina Favreau and her husband Bruce of Templeton, Carrie Ghizzi and her husband Aaron of Leicester and Robert Sumner of Gardner; seven great-grandchildren, Alex, Gage and McGwire Favreau, Katelyn, Ashley and Brian Allain and Jason Ghizzi; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by five brothers, Waldo, James, George, Gerald and Roland Richardson and by five sisters, Marjorie Whiting, Ada Carlson, Anna Stowell, May Lavigne and Elizabeth Kirkham.
A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, March 3rd at 11:00 a.m. in Holy Spirit Church, 50 Lovewell Street, Gardner. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Gardner at a later date.
There are no calling hours.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Baldwinville Nursing Home Activity Fund, 51 Hospital Road, Baldwinville, MA 01436.
Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner is handling the arrangements.
