Doris L. (LeBlanc) Whitney, 81, of 102 Valley Road, Barre, died Friday, November 12, 2010 surrounded by family in her daughter Claire's home, following a long illness.
Born in Bouctouche, N.B. Canada on June 14, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Richard and Elise (LeBlanc) LeBlanc.
Doris graduated from Gardner High School with the Class of 1947. She attended Mount Wachusett Community College in Gardner.
Doris was employed by Simplex Time Recorder in Gardner as a payroll coordinator for 25 years, retiring in 1994. She previously owned and operated Chag's Grinder Stand in Otter River from 1960 through 1965.
Doris was a member of St. Joseph's Church in Gardner, and various prayer groups. She was a devout Catholic who enjoyed praying the Rosary and spending time in the Adoration Chapel of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church in Gardner. The highlight of her life was visiting Medjugorje.
She enjoyed walking, and loved children. She was also an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox.
Doris was predeceased by her first husband, Gerard Chagnon who died in 1960 and her second husband, Lester Whitney who died in 1986.
She leaves two sons, Mike P. Chagnon and his wife Theresa of Millbury and Scott D. Whitney and his wife Judy of Palm Coast, FL; three daughters, Denise M. Rogers of Gardner, Claire A. O'Brien and her husband Danny of Barre and Mary Beth Krauss and her husband Paul of Otter River; one brother, Ronald LeBlanc of Gardner; three sisters, Yvonne Allard and her husband Robert of Belchertown, Irene Magliacane and her husband Emilio of Gardner and Alma Favreau and her husband Roland of Gardner; fourteen grandchildren, three great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her daughter, Diane Chagnon; one brother, Normand LeBlanc and one sister, Rita Belanger.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, November 18th from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc, 110 Nichols Street, Gardner with a Mass at 10:00 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church, Pleasant Street, Gardner. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Baldwinville.
Calling hours in the funeral home will be Wednesday, November 17th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to The Highlands, Adult Day Health Program, 335 Nichols Road, Fitchburg, MA 01420.
