Doris C. (Rousseau) Simkewicz, 90, of 25 Way St., Gardner, died Saturday, March 26th in the Leo P. LaChance Center for Rehabilitation & Nursing, Gardner, following an illness.
Born in Gardner on December 8, 1914, she was the daughter of Joseph and Albina (Malo) Rousseau.
She was a stitcher employed by the former Rousseau Bros. of Gardner for 8 years until retiring in 1975. She was previously employed as an assembler for the former Florence Stove Co. of Gardner.
She was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church.
Mrs. Simkewicz enjoyed cooking, playing parcheesi, cards and doing word puzzles.
Her first husband, Nicholas Stewart, died in combat during World War II in 1945.
She leaves her husband of 59 years, Thomas D. Simkewicz of Gardner; 2 sons, Raymond A. Stewart of Rutland and Alan R. Stewart and wife Jean Marie of Sevierville, TN; 1 daughter Gail Simkewicz of Sedona, AZ; 1 brother Arthur Rousseau of Fitzwilliam, NH; 1 sister, Theresa Chartier of Gardner; 6 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by 7 brothers Roger, Alvin, Norman, Roland, Cleo, Raymond, Robert Rousseau and 2 sisters, Viola Viner and Leona Rousseau.
A Memorial Mass will be held Wednesday, March 30th @ 11:00 a.m. in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 166 Cross St., Gardner. Burial in St. John's Cemetery, Gardner, will be at a later date.
