Donald E. Waxlax, 75, of 266 Front St., Winchendon, died Thursday, December 11th in his residence following a short illness, surrounded by his family.
Born in Templeton on September 25, 1933, he was the son of George and Elizabeth (Miller) Waxlax.
Donald was an automobile mechanic and car parts' delivery person employed by Car Quest of Jaffrey, NH for 10 years until retiring last June. He formerly owned and operated Don's Friendly Service Station in Gardner during the 1950's. He was previously employed as a fleet mechanic by the former Heywood-Wakefield Co. and also manager of General Automotive Co., both of Gardner.
` He was a 1951 graduate of Gardner High School. Donald was a member of the American Legion Post 13 of Greenville, NH, and the Royal Order of the Blue Nose Arctic Circle. He was a loyal Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots fan, and was a regular spectator at the Narragansett Football Team's games since 1970. He also served as President of the first Narragansett Football Booster Club. Donald created 'tin-men" from used tin cans. His greatest love was spending time with his family.
Donald was a Korean War U.S. Navy Veteran and received the National Occupation Service Medal and the National Defense Medal.
His wife of 49 years, Alice (Bourgeois) Waxlax, died in 2001.
He leaves 2 sons, Stephen D. Waxlax of Winchendon, Anthony J. Waxlax and his wife Theresa of Alamo Gordo, NM; 2 daughters, Julie A. Bassett (his caregiver) of South Windsor, CT, and Tina M. Goguen and her husband Daniel of Phillipston; 1 brother, Robert W. Waxlax and his wife Dorina of Athol; 1 sister, Agnes Drew of Gardner; 7 grandchildren, Joshua Waxlax, Melissa Garill, Jeremiah and Sean Bassett, Keith and Troy Goguen, and Andrea Waxlax; 4 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 17th at 1:30 pm in the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols St., Gardner. Rev. Brenda Casavoy will officiate. Burial of cremains will be in Crystal Lake Cemetery, Gardner.
There are no calling hours.
