Donald "Don" P. Vient, 83, of 222 Chapel St., Gardner, died Thursday, September 27, 2007 in The Highlands, Fitchburg.
Born in Worcester on June 28, 1924, he was the son of John L. and Bertha (Hopriopel) Vient.
He was a self-employed drummer playing for various musical groups, until retiring in 1991. He was also a truck driver employed by Coyne Industrial Laundries, Inc. of Worcester.
Don was a 1942 graduate of Worcester Boys Trade School. For several years he had a season pass to the Holy Cross Football games, courtesy of his uncle, Coach Hopriopel. He was a devoted fan of the Boston Red Sox, New England Patriots and the Boston Celtics. Don especially enjoyed walking his dog, Skippy.
Don was a World War II U.S. Navy Veteran and served on the USS PUFFER Submarine.
He leaves his wife of 28 years, Winifred D. (Arnold) Vient of Gardner; 2 sons, Gary J. Vient of Monson and Donald P. Vient Jr. of Springfield; 2 stepsons, Donald W. Capman and his wife Bonnie of Sterling, and Bruce T. Capman of Taunton. He was predeceased by a brother, Richard Vient who died in the Cocoanut Grove Fire in Boston on November 28, 1942.
Private Graveside services at Notre Dame Cemetery and Chapel Mausoleum, Worcester, MA will be held at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours.
