Donald F. "Pee-Wee" Pierce, 62, of 142 Nichols Street, Gardner and formerly of New Windsor, NY died Friday, October 5, 2012 in Heywood Hospital, Gardner following a long battle with cancer.
Born in Gardner, on September 28, 1950, he was the son of the late Fredrick and Elizabeth (Hetu) Pierce.
Donald was employed by Nichols & Stone Company of Gardner as a bed sander for twelve years, retiring in 2004. He was previously employed by Collier Keyworth Company of Gardner.
He graduated from Narrangansett Regional High School, Templeton in 1969.
Donald was a United States Vietnam War Navy Veteran and received the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medal.
He was a member of the V.F.W. Ovila Case, Post 905 of Gardner, the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie 747 of Gardner and the Deep Sea Club of Gardner.
He was an avid sports fan, especially of softball and football, and he loved to travel.
Donald leaves two sons, Brian Pierce of New Windsor, NY and Thomas Pierce of the U.S. Navy of Newport, RI; two brothers, Stephen W. Pierce of Winchendon and Daniel J. Pierce of Gardner; two nephews, William Pierce of Templeton and Greg Pierce of North Carolina. He was predeceased by one brother, David F. Pierce who died in 1991.
A Memorial Service and burial will be held Thursday, October 18th at 2:00 p.m. in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 111 GlenAllen Street, Winchendon.
