Donald "Waxy" Choate

Donald "Waxy" Choate, 82, of Orange, died peacefully Friday, October 20, 2017 in Quabbin Valley Healthcare of Athol, following a brief illness.
Born in St. Petersburg, Florida on November 21, 1934 he was the son of the late Francis and Gladys (Fairbanks) Choate.
Donald was owner/operator of C & C Cleaners for many years.
He was a United States Korean War Army Veteran and earned the National Defense Service Medal.
Donald was a member of the United Methodist Church of Orange. He was also a 50 year member of the American Legion Post 172 of Orange.
Donald enjoyed camping at Wild Acres RV Resort and Campground at Old Orchard Beach, Maine, and he also enjoyed fishing. He was a devoted fan of the Boston Red Sox. Donald was a collector of Horatio Alger books; and he was an avid bowler who earned many trophies. Donald was a joyful man who had a great sense of humor. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Donald leaves two sons, Robert Choate of Berlin and Mark W. Choate of Brooklyn, Maine; one daughter, Robyn O'Bermyer of Hudson; one brother, Francis Choate and his wife Nancy of Auburn, GA; his companion of 41 years, Jeannine Savoie of Orange; and her three children, Diane Ballweg and husband Keith of Gardner, Timothy Savoie and his wife Carol of Westford and Ricky Savoie of Nashville, TN; three grandchildren, Jeremiah O'Bermyer, Rebecca O'Bermyer and Ryan Rufus Choate; two great-grandchildren, Jakob and Makaylah Stead; his companions two grandchildren, Thomas Ventola and Olivia Savoie; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by one sister, Alex McIntyre.
Funeral Services and burial will be held Thursday, October 26th at 1:00 p.m. in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen Street, Winchendon.
There are no calling hours.
