Donald G. "Don" Baker, 67, of 3 Millbrook Drive, Templeton died peacefully Tuesday, February 1, 2011 in his residence surrounded by family, following a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Lowell, MA on December 11, 1943, he was the son of the late Charles E. Baker, Jr. and Evelyn A. (Stevens) (Baker) Stott.
Don was a stock receiver employed by L.S. Starrett Company of Athol for 32 years, retiring in 2008. He also worked part time in the Deli Department of Hannaford Supermarket, Victory Supermarket and Donelans Supermarket for a total of 22 years.
Don graduated from Athol High School with the Class of 1964. He attended the Salvation Army School for Officer Training in New York, NY.
He was a member of the Salvation Army Church in Athol, MA.
Don enjoyed playing cards, especially cribbage and poker. He also enjoyed going to Foxwoods Casino and playing the bowling game on the Wii. Don was an avid Yankees fan. His favorite television shows were old Western movies and game shows. He was a fan of Country music.
He leaves his wife of six years, Janice B. (Morse) Baker of Templeton; one son, James E. Baker and his wife Beth of Sturbridge; three daughters, Julie-Ann Baker of Arlington, Jennifer Lynn Forrester and her husband Andrew of Sharon and Jodi Elaine Lloyd and her husband Phillip of Suffern, NY; one step-daughter, Tammy Lynn Hansen of Templeton; two brothers, Charles E. Baker and his wife Cynthia of Orange and Thomas P. Stott and his wife Sue-Ellen of New Braintree; two sisters, Sharon A. Morse and her husband Ronald of Myrtle Beach, SC and Patricia R. Carleton and her husband James of Marlboro; ten grandchildren Zachary, Samuel, Sophia and Benjamin Lloyd, Riley, Sydney and Luke Forrester; Lauren and Bradley Baker and Connor Hansen; one aunt, Fran Stevens of Franklin, TN; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by one brother, Paul S. Baker.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, February 7th at 11:00 a.m. in the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner. Burial will be in New Cemetery, Ashburnham at a later date.
Calling hours in the funeral home are Sunday, February 6th from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Monday, February 7th from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
