Dennis K. Wehmeyer, 77, of Conway, SC, died peacefully Monday, June 5, 2023, in Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston, after a short battle with cancer.
Born in Fitchburg on November 24, 1945, he was the eldest son of the late William C. Wehmeyer Sr. and Alice (Ducharme) Wehmeyer. He graduated from Oakmont Regional High School with the Class of 1963. Dennis was a proud United States Navy Vietnam War Veteran serving as a Cryptologic Technician from 1964 to 1968, where he received the National Defense Service Medal. He was a printer employed by New England Business Services for many years before his retirement.
Dennis loved sports, in his youth he was an athlete where he excelled most in baseball. Throughout his entire life he enjoyed rooting for the local sports teams either in person or on television with his family and friends. He was an avid golfer where he most enjoyed playing in father/son tournaments and member guest tournaments with his friends and family. In his retirement, Dennis loved to go target shooting and could often be found on a golf course. His greatest joy was his family, treasuring all the special moments they had together throughout the years.
Dennis is survived by his son, Darryl Wehmeyer, and his wife, Nadia of Hingham; two grandchildren, Adam Fisk Wehmeyer, and Benjamin Yaz Wehmeyer; three brothers, William C. Wehmeyer Jr. and his wife Jacqueline of Gardner, John Wehmeyer and his wife Celeste of Winchendon and Scott Wehmeyer of Ashburnham; five sisters, Linda O’Kane of Ashburnham, Dixie Wehmeyer and her husband Gary of Surry, ME, Debra Wehmeyer and her wife Margaret Trafton of Ashburnham, Diane Garner and her husband Doug of Rindge, NH, and Pam Catorio and her husband Mike of Gardner; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was predeceased by his daughter, Karen Michelle Wehmeyer, and a sister, Sherry Breau.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, June 15, 2023, at 12:00 p.m. in the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner, MA. Burial with Military Honors will follow at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen Street, Winchendon, MA.
Calling Hours will be held Thursday, June 15, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
