Denis L. Butler

Denis L. Butler, 75, of 191 Union Street, Gardner, died Thursday, May 29th in Heywood Hospital, Gardner following a brief illness.

Born in Fitchburg on September 1, 1932, he was the son of the late George J. and Graziella (Allard) Butler, Sr.

Denis was employed by Simplex Time Recorder, Gardner as an Underwriters Laboratory Coordinator for 25 years, retiring in 1984. He was also a Realtor with Tousignant Realtors for 9 years, retiring in 1994 and was previously with Fontaine Realtors for 5 years.

Denis attended St. Bernard's High School, Fitchburg. He received his GED in 1956, and attended Mount Wachusett Community College, Gardner. Denis received his Realtors License in 1987 from Century 21.

Mr. Butler was a member of Holy Spirit Church, Gardner. He was also a Benefit Member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie 747 of Gardner and a Third Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 396 of Gardner.

Denis was a United States Korean War Air Force Veteran, and received the Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.

Denis was an avid painter, writer and musician. He was also a great "joke teller".

He leaves his wife of 52 years, Maria R. (Pelletier) Butler of Gardner; seven sons, Eugene V. Butler and his wife Lee of Gardner, Glenn R. Butler of Gardner, Maurice L. Butler of Templeton, David P. Butler and his wife Kristina of Athol, Denis B. Butler and his wife Norma of Gardner, Daniel J. Butler and his wife Diane of Phillipston and Douglas G. Butler and his wife Lisa of Gardner; three daughters, Doreen D. LaCroix of Hubbardston, Marleen M. Butler of Gardner and Michelle C. Butler of Templeton; two brothers, George J. Butler, Jr. of Fitchburg and Ronald O. Butler and his wife Theresa of Fitchburg; two sisters, Delrose B. Cormier of Leominster and Therese Belletete and her husband Lucien of Baldwinville; twenty four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a daughter-in-law, Sharon Jean Butler who died in 2007.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 5th from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner with a Mass at 10:00 a.m. in Holy Spirit Church, 50 Lovewell Street, Gardner. Burial will be in Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Winchendon.

Calling hours in the funeral home are Wednesday, June 4th from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
