Deacon Roger D. Arsenault, 87, of Gardner, died Sunday, May 22, 2016 in Wachusett Manor Nursing Home of Gardner surrounded by his family, following a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease.
Born in Gardner on April 6, 1929, he was the son of the late Donat and Viola (Cormier) Arsenault.
Deacon Roger graduated from Worcester Boys Trade School with the Class of 1947. He later attended Mount Wachusett Community College of Gardner.
Deacon Roger was employed by Mass Electric Company of Worcester as a Supervisor for 40 years, retiring in 1992.
He was a member of Annunciation Parish/Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church of Gardner. Deacon Roger was the first Deacon ordained in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Worcester on July 24, 1978 by Bishop Bernard J. Flanagan. He served his ministries at Our Lady Immaculate Parish of Athol, Holy Family of Nazareth Parish of Leominster and Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Parish of Gardner. Deacon Roger retired from active ministry in July of 2001.
Deacon Roger loved all his animals, which included a pet raccoon "Bandit", dog "Zack", and also a ferret and squirrels. He enjoyed woodworking, and created two miniature houses with all the interior furnishings. He also enjoyed watching his favorite shows on television, "Family Feud", "Family" and various court programs. Deacon Roger was a member of the Gardner Chapter of AARP.
He leaves his wife of 65 years, Theresa M. (Reinikainen) Arsenault of Gardner; five sons, Neal J. Arsenault of Gardner, Duane R. Arsenault and his wife Sandra of Gardner, Reed J. Arsenault and his friend, Barbara Olendzki of Sterling, Craig R. Arsenault and his wife Priscilla of Gardner and Scott R. Arsenault and his wife Phyllis of Fitchburg; one brother, Raymond Arsenault and his wife Joan of Westminster, CA; one sister, Muriel Davies of San Clement, CA; nine grandchildren, Crystal Rose and her husband Brad, Kevin Arsenault and his wife Amanda, Jennifer Booth, Christopher Rameau and his wife Rhonda, Joshua Arsenault and his wife Katie, Jeffrey Arsenault and his wife Jenna, Kate Hamilton and her fiancé Rick Turner, Ben and Nik Olendzki; nine great-grandchildren, Timothy Pierce and his wife Becca, Kayla and Dasia Rameau, Christian Booth, Charlie, Spencer, Julian and Brielle Arsenault, and Dexter Turner; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, May 26th from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner with a Mass at 11:00 a.m. in Annunciation Parish/Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols Street, Gardner. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Gardner.
Calling hours will be held Thursday, May 26th from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
