David J. "Dave" "Starzy" Starzynski, 55 of 39 Jackson Park, Gardner, died Monday, December 22nd at Umass Memorial Medical Center-Lake Ave N, Worcester, after being stricken ill at home.
Dave was born in Worcester on December 1, 1953, the son of the late Victor and Helen (Foster) Starzynski.
He was a Fire Control Officer with the Department of Conservation and Recreation for the Commonwealth of MA, employed at the fire watch tower at Mt Wachusett Ski Area in Princeton. During the winter months, he worked in the maintenance department of Mt. Wachusett Ski Area. Dave was also a call firefighter for the City of Gardner. He was the previous owner of Brazell's Package Store in Gardner, until 2001.
Dave graduated from Gardner High School, Gardner with the Class of 1971. In 1973, he graduated from the University of Massachusetts, Stockbridge with a degree in Forestry.
Dave was a member of St. Joseph's Church, Gardner. He was a member of the Hubbardston Rod and Gun Club. He was involved with On-Site Academy in Gardner for 15 years.
Dave was an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed hunting, fishing, bow hunting, skiing, playing softball and canoeing.
He leaves one son, Craig D. Starzynski of Gardner; two daughters, Julie M. and Dawn F. Starzynski both of Gardner; one sister, Carol E. Allard of Ashburnham, two aunts, Gladys Hunter of Gardner and Agnes Starzynski of Gardner; three nieces, Lauren Allard of Worcester, Caitlin Allard of Ashburnham and Hannah Farineau of Ashburnham; his former wife, Shirley Giammalvo of Gardner. David also leaves his girlfriend, Teresa Allain of Gardner.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 31st from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner with a Mass at 10:00 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church, Pleasant Street, Gardner. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Gardner at a later date.
Calling hours in the funeral home will be Tuesday, December 30th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701.
