David A. "Eagle Eye" Comee, 60, of 65 Marquette Street, Gardner, died Monday, October 10, 2011 in UMass Memorial Medical Center, 55 Lake Avenue North, Worcester, after being stricken ill while biking up Wachusett Mountain in Princeton with his wife Kathy.
David was born in Gardner on March 8, 1951, the son of the late Arthur A. and Jeanette (Casavant) Comee.
He graduated from Gardner High School with the Class of 1969, attended Mount Wachusett Community College in Gardner and graduated from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst in 1976 with a degree in Turf Management.
David was the Co-Director/Superintendent of The Winchendon School Golf Club, Winchendon for the past 32 years.
He was a member of the Golf Course Superintendent Association of America and the Golf Course Superintendent Association of the New England Chapter for 23 years. He served on the Board of Trustees for the New England Chapter for 9 years, and was a longtime member of the Scholarship and Benevolence Committee, which offers scholarships to children of Superintendents and benevolence aide for members in need.
Dave's passion was golf and his greatest enjoyment came from golf, golf and more golf. He was Club Champion twice at the Winchendon School Golf Club, and to his credit, had four holes-in-one. Dave also enjoyed hiking, biking and walking in the woods with his family and dogs. Dave was a wonderful, loving, energetic man and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He leaves his soul mate and wife of 37 years, Kathy J. (Prendergast) Comee of Gardner; one son, Tavis A. Comee and his wife Kerrianne of Raynham; one daughter, Megan M. Comee of Gardner; one brother, Dennis Comee and his wife Jane of Gardner; two uncles, Edward Wodjylak of Summerdale, PA and Virgil Comee of CA; three nieces, Katie, Kelsey and Lauren Prendergast; three nephews, Shaun Comee, and Chris and Danny Lenihan.
A Memorial Service celebrating David's life will be held Sunday, October 16th at 9:00 a.m. on the 11th Green at The Winchendon School Golf Club, beginning at 8:30 a.m. at the Pro Shop, 435 Spring Street, Winchendon.
Memorial contributions may be made to the NE Golf Superintendents Scholarship Fund, with checks payable to GCSANE S and B Fund, c/o Sharon Brownell, 300 Arnold Palmer Blvd., Norton, MA 01766.
