Curtis "Curt" Wayne Desmarais, 64, who resided at 8 Cross Street, Ashburnham since 1980, died Thursday, October 28th surrounded by his loving family in St. Vincent's Hospital, Worcester, following a brief illness.
Born in Montague, MA on August 30, 1946, he was the son of the late Ludger and Vergeline Rose (Patnode) Desmarais.
Prior to retiring in 2008, Curtis was a press operator employed by the Gardner News of Gardner for ten years. He previously was employed for ten years by Garlock Manufacturing Company of Gardner.
Curtis graduated from Murdock High School, Winchendon with the Class of 1965.
He was a member of St. Martin's Church in Otter River. Curtis was a member of the Otter River Sportsman Club.
He was a Vietnam War United States Army Veteran, and received the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medal.
Curtis enjoyed playing softball, ice fishing, hunting, bird watching, gardening and playing the guitar. He was a collector of baseball cards, enjoyed watching the Boston Red Sox, playing cribbage, playing solitaire on the computer and playing video games - especially Zelda. Curtis was a loving, generous, jolly man. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He leaves his longtime companion, Christine, M. (Foley) Desmarais of Ashburnham; two sons, Curt Wayne Desmarais and his fiancee Laura Khoshabjian of Winchendon and Shane Desmarais of Ashburnham; three brothers, Bruce Desmarais and his wife Maria of Leominster, Louis Desmarais and his wife Roberta of Manchester, NH and Alan Desmarais of Gardner; one sister, Karen Desmarais of Springfield; four nieces, five nephews and several cousins.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, November 2nd from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., with a Mass at 10:00 a.m. in St. Martin's Church, 248 State Road, Otter River. Burial will be in the MA Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen Street, Winchendon.
Calling hours in the funeral home will be Monday, November 1st from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
