Colby C. O'Brien, 8, of Gardner died Thursday, February 6, 2014 in Heywood Hospital, Gardner, following a tragic accident at Elm Street School, Gardner.
Colby was born in Worcester on July 8, 2005, the son of Robert F. and Jolene T. (Carroll) O'Brien of Gardner.
At the time of his death he was a third grade student at Elm Street School, Gardner.
He was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church of Gardner.
Colby was a fun loving, energetic 8 year old who loved watching sports, especially football and basketball. He was a former member of the Gardner Youth Soccer League. He loved eating popcorn, playing with his Xbox and drawing. He loved math and was an awesome speller, those being his favorite subjects in school. He enjoyed listening to music; his favorite band was "Shine Down".
Cherished memories of Colby will live on forever in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
Besides his parents, he leaves one brother, Quinn W. O'Brien of Gardner; his twin sister, Madison J. O'Brien of Gardner; paternal grandmother, Mary O'Brien of Burlington, MA; maternal grandmother, Janet Popoloski of Woburn, his step grandfather Paul Popoloski of Woburn; five aunts, Barbara O'Brien, Jeanne O'Brien, Emery Popoloski, Samantha Popoloski and Tanya Lefebvre; three uncles, Richard O'Brien, Ed O'Brien and Charlie Popoloski; several cousins and many, many friends. He also leaves his new puppy, whom he adored, "Piper".
Funeral Services will be held Friday, February 14th from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner with a Mass at 11:00 a.m. in Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols Street, Gardner.
Calling hours Thursday, February 13th will begin at 4:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
Family and friends are invited to wear their favorite sports team jersey to both the calling hours and funeral service.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Colby C. O'Brien Fund, c/o TD Bank, 90 Pearson Blvd., Gardner, MA 01440.
