Cleo Normand Girouard, 76, who resided at 21 Parkwood Lane, Westminster for the past 30 years, died in his residence Monday, May 17th following a long illness, surrounded by his family.
Born in Gardner on September 13, 1933 he was the son of the late Magloire and Eliza (Fredette) Girouard.
Cleo was a Design Engineer, employed by Boston and Maine Railroad of Billerica, MA for 17 years, retiring in 1996.
He graduated from Gardner High School, Gardner with the Class of 1951. Cleo studied electronics in various military schools and colleges.
Cleo was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, Gardner. He was a member and past president of the Senior Friendship Club of Westminster, Wachusett Mountain Advisory Council, American Legion Post 0174 of Westminster, Walk n' Mass Club. Cleo was also a member and co-chairman of the North County Midstate Trail Club. He established an Academic Scholarship Fund in the year 2000 for Oakmont Regional High School in Ashburnham.
Cleo was a United States Air Force Korean War Veteran, serving 22 years, and received many service awards including the National Defense Service Medal.
His hobbies included skiing, hiking, walking, boating and reading. He enjoyed watching Western movies, especially John Wayne. Cleo most enjoyed spending time with his family.
He leaves his wife of 54 years, Jeannine A. (Robichaud) Girouard; two sons, Richard N. Girouard and his wife Patricia of Gardner and James N. Girouard and his wife Lin of Hudson, NH; one daughter, Catherine M. Wilson and her husband David of Windham, NH; one brother, Joseph Herve Girouard and his wife Arlene of Roslindale, MA; two sisters, Doris L. LeBlanc of Killingworth, CT and Helene E. Tanguay and her husband George of Dunwoody, Georgia; four grandchildren, Jessica Dalzell, Christine Girouard, Collen Wilson and Eric Wilson; four great-grandchildren, Cassie Girouard, Zac Coe, Richard Gallant and Brianna Dalzell; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, May 20th from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner with a Mass at 11:00 a.m. in Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols Street, Gardner. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Gardner.
Calling hours in the funeral home will be Thursday, May 20th from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
