Clement J. Poirier, 88, of 125 Connors Street, Gardner, formerly of 3 Maple Street for 20 twenty years, died Tuesday, April 3rd at Heywood Hospital, Gardner shortly after being stricken ill.
Born in Minto, N.B. Canada on November 22, 1918, he was the son of the late Anthony and Virginia (Allain) Poirier.
Clement was a chair assembler, employed by George B. Bent Company, Gardner for eight years until retiring in 1981. He was previously employed by Heywood Wakefield Co., Gardner for 18 years.
Clement was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, Gardner. He was a member of the Gardner Golden Agers, A.A.R.P. of Gardner, V.F.W. Ovila Case Post 905 of Gardner, the American Legion Post 129 of Gardner, Acadien Social Club of Gardner, Gardner Trout Club, Deep Sea Club of Gardner and served on the Binnall House Council.
He was an avid Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots fan.
Clement was a W.W. II United States Army veteran and received the Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theatre Campaign Ribbon, American Theatre Camp Ribbon and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with One Bronze Star.
His wife of 44 years, Doris M. (Gallant) Poirier died on June 26, 1990.
Clement leaves 2 sons, Michael J. Poirier and his wife Barbara of Westminster and Patrick D. Poirier and his wife Donna of Gardner; 1 daughter, Diane M. Davidson and her husband Larry of Glouster Point, Virginia; 2 sisters, Hettie Bresnick of Gardner and Dorina Bogdanwicz of Anaheim, CA; 5 grandchildren, Christopher and Matthew Poirier, Laura Tompkins, Gregory Poirier and Randall Vining; 2 great-grandchildren, Kallie Tompkins and Corey Vining, a dear friend, Lorraine Morgan of Gardner; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by 4 brothers, Isaac, John, Alfred and Raymond Poirier; and 2 sisters, Loretta Cyr and Lillian Diotalevi.
Funeral services will be held Monday, April 9th from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner, with a Mass at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols Street, Gardner. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Gardner.
Calling hours at the funeral home are Sunday, April 8th from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
