Charles J. Robichaud, 89, of 42 Oriole Street, Gardner died peacefully Tuesday, May 31st in Wachusett Manor Nursing Home, Gardner, unexpectedly surrounded by his family.
Born in Rumford, Maine on August 20, 1921, he was the son of the Thimothee Otho and Marie Eugenie (Sivret) Robichaud.
Charles was a licensed pipe fitter employed by Royal Steam Heating Company of Gardner for 40 years, retiring in 1983.
Charles was a United States WWII Army Veteran, and received the Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon.
He was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, Gardner, and did numerous volunteer work for the parish, and was also an organizer of the "Poutin Factory". He was a member of the Local #4 Pipe Fitters Union of Worcester, the V.F.W. Ovila Case Post 905 of Gardner, and was founder and member of Two Hearts As One Square Dance Club. He played tackle for the Gardner Merchants Football Team from 1938 - 1941.
His favorite pastime for the last 40 years was seasonal camping and sitting by a fire with family and friends, most recently at Peaceful Acres Campground in Hubbardston.
Charles was predeceased by his wife of 49 years, Olive T. (Manseau) Robichaud, who died March 18, 1992.
He leaves one son, Robert C. Robichaud and his wife Ann of Milford; three daughters, Annette M. Robichaud of Cambridge, Charlene A. Robichaud of Gardner and Theresa L. Miller of Gardner; one brother, Ludger A. Robichaud and his wife Lorraine of Gardner; two sisters, Albina Martin of Gardner and Rita Lahikainen of Gardner; one grandchild, Shelby Dion; five step-grandchildren, Crista Meyers, Alexandra Schultze, Amanda Rua, Stephanie Rua and Phillip Rua; five great-grandchildren, Gabriel Dion, Joshua Dion and Devin, Dylan and Morgan Meyers. He also leaves a special little girl, Heather Covey. Charles was predeceased by one brother, Louis A. Robichaud.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, June 4th from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner with a Mass at 11:00 a.m. in Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols Street, Gardner. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Gardner.
Calling hours in the funeral home are Friday, June 3rd from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
