Charles E."Charlie" Fredette

Charles E. "Charlie" Fredette, 96, of 405 Pearl Street, Gardner, formerly of 25 Mill Street, Baldwinville, died Wednesday, November 5, 2014 in Heywood Hospital, Gardner, surrounded by his family, following a brief illness.
Born in Athol on April 14, 1918, he was the son of the late Anselme and Laudia (Boucher) Fredette.
Charles graduated from Gardner High School of Gardner with the Class of 1936, and attended Mount Wachusett Community College of Gardner.
He was a United States WWII Army Air Corps Veteran and received the Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with Bronze Service Star, American Theater Campaign Ribbon and Victory Medal.
He was employed by General Electric Company of Fitchburg as quality control inspector for 16 years, retiring in 1981. He was previously employed by Heywood Wakefield Company of Gardner as a welder for 27 years.
Charles was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Church of Baldwinville, and served as a Eucharistic Minister, usher and advisor for the Catholic Youth Council. He was on the Parish Finance Committee and served as President of the Parish Council.
He was a Third Degree Member and past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus Council #2536 of Otter River, the oldest member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 905, Ovila Case of Gardner, and was a member of the Templeton Golden Agers. He served as Treasurer of Boy Scout Troop #15, was a literacy volunteer at Mount Wachusett Community College for three years, and volunteered at the Baldwinville Nursing Home for 8 years.
Charles enjoyed walking, fishing, gardening, reading, doing crossword puzzles and loved spending time with his family.
He was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Josephine A. (McGrath) Fredette, who died October 26, 2008.
He leaves five sons, James E. Fredette and his wife Louise of Pittsford, NY, Charles G. Fredette of Phillipston, Robert F. Fredette and his wife Louise of West Springfield, Dr. Thomas J. Fredette and his wife Juliana of Westminster and Mark C. Fredette and his wife Sandra of Gardner; one daughter, Mary A. Hazlett of Franklin; sixteen grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, November 10th from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner with a Mass at 11:00 a.m. in St. Vincent de Paul Church, 1 Forest Street, Baldwinville. Burial in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Winchendon will be private and held at a later date.
A calling hour will be held Monday, November 10th from 9:15 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. in the funeral home.
