Charlene D. (Bergeron) Asbury, 82, of Ashburnham, died peacefully Saturday, December 28, 2024, in UMass Memorial HealthAlliance Hospital, Leominster, after an illness.
Born in Boston on June 12, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Eugene J. and Amelia (Sanicki) Bergeron. She graduated from St. Bernard’s Central Catholic High School with the Class of 1960. Charlene was a secretary employed by the Ashburnham Police Department for many years until her retirement in 2007. She was previously employed at the Ashburnham Town Hall as the assistant to the treasurer and at the Stevens Memorial Library.
Charlene was a parishioner of St. Denis Church of Ashburnham. She had a playful side, often enjoying Disney, especially her favorite character, Eeyore. Charlene loved to keep busy reading, crocheting, and baking, but her greatest joy was her family, treasuring the time spent together.
Charlene is survived by her two children, William Asbury II and Judi Asbury, both of Gardner; four grandchildren, Stephanie Williams, Zachary, and Makayla Reponen and Amy Cunningham; a brother, Eugene Joseph Bergeon and his wife Lynn of Orange; a sister, Cecile Russo and her husband John of Fitchburg; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, William Grant Asbury, who died in 2017; a sister, Patricia Bergeron; and a brother, Francis Bergeron.
Graveside Services at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen Street, Winchendon, MA, will be private and held at the conviencne of the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Montachusett Veterans Outreach Center, 268 Central Street, Gardner, MA 01440. Please reference in memory of Charlene D. Asbury.
