Cecile (Dion) Cormier, 86, of 32 Hospital Hill Road, Gardner and formerly of 17B Knowlton Street, Gardner, died Friday, April 15, 2011 in Wachusett Manor Nursing Home, Gardner surrounded by her family, following a brief illness.
Born in St. Therese, Montreal, Canada on December 26, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Marie Claire (Aylwin) Dion.
Cecile spent her life as a homemaker caring for her family.
She was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church in Gardner.
Cecile enjoyed cooking, doing word search puzzles and watching her favorite game shows on television, The Wheel of Fortune and Lets Make a Deal. She was an avid Boston Bruins and Boston Red Sox fan.
Mrs. Cormier was predeceased by her husband of 49 years, Aurele Cormier, who died November 11, 1997.
She leaves two daughters, Jeannette Kodys and her husband Chester of Westminster and Diane Bourque and her husband Daniel of Gardner; two brothers, Claude Dion of Montreal, Canada and Daniel Dion and his wife Louise of Laval, Canada; three sisters, Louise Filion and her husband Rheal of Boisbriamd, Quebec, Canada, Micheline Boulais and her husband Jacques of Laval, Canada and Lucy Dion of St. Therese, Montreal, Canada; one granddaughter, Michele Hathaway and her husband John of Shirley; one brother-in-law William Whitney of Gardner; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her son, Paul Cormier, who died in 2010, and three brothers, Roger, Jean and Gerard Dion, and by four sisters, Helen Whitney, Lise Beaudin, Jeanne Brgles and Francine Benoit.
A Funeral Mass will be held Monday, April 18th at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols Street, Gardner. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Gardner.
There are no calling hours.
