Carol D. (Springfield) Vautour, 63, of Athol, died peacefully Saturday, December 30, 2023, in UMass Memorial Medical Center—Memorial Campus, Worcester, after a brief battle with cancer.
Born in Minot, North Dakota, on September 16, 1960, she was the daughter of the late Albert D. and Gail A. (Lehman) Springfield. She graduated from Quabbin Regional High School with the Class of 1978 and from Fisher College in 1992 with her medical assistant certificate. Carol was a teachers aide employed by Caps Collaborative of Westminster for 20 years prior to her passing.
Carol was a parishioner of St. Edward the Confessor Church of Westminster. She was a member of the Chair City Pipers, as well as a member of the Rainbow Young Girl Free Mason of Barre. Carol enjoyed knitting, reading, working on puzzles, singing, and playing with her cats. She loved to be outside whether it was at the beach, or working in her gardens, she found the peacefulness it brought. Carol’s greatest joy was brought by being with her family, treasuring the times they spent together.
Carol is survived by her four children, Thomas Pilling and his wife Laura of Athol, Jared Vautour of Athol, Margie Nicholas and her husband William of Gardner and Mary Vautour of Gardner; three grandchildren, Heather and Matthew Pilling and Lily Nicholas; two sisters, Tammy Miskell of Morgantown, IN, and Margie Donaldson of West Chesterfield, NH; two brothers, Robert A. Springfield and his wife Debra of South Berwick, ME, and Albert J. Springfield and his wife Robin of Princeton; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, January 15, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. in St. Edward the Confessor Church, 10 Church Street, Westminster, MA. Family and friends are asked to report directly to the church on the day of the service.
