Carol E. (Chaisson) Burke, 71, of 37 Kruse Road, Hubbardston, died peacefully Monday, November 15, 2010 in her residence surrounded by her family, following her battle with lung cancer.
Carol was born in Natick on March 8, 1939, the daughter of the late John Kelson and Jean Dorothea (Stuart) Chaisson.
She graduated from Natick High School with the Class of 1956, and later attended Chandler Secretarial School.
Carol moved from the town of Bolton to Hubbardston after the death of her husband of 32 years, Walter T. Burke, Sr who died in 2000. She was employed by the town of Hubbardston in the Building Department for many years, and was the secretary of the Hubbardston Conservation Commission. She was previously employed by Digital Manufacturing Company in Maynard.
Carol was an active member of the Red Hat Society, the Barre Woman's Club, The Golden Agers, the Hubbardston Book Club, the Hubbardston Cultural Council and the Hubbardston Garden Club.
She was an avid gardener and world traveler. Her hobbies included reading and crafts. She also enjoyed going to the movies. Her most favorite thing to do was spend time with her grandchildren.
She leaves one son, Walter T. Burke, Jr. and his wife Tania of Hubbardston; two daughters, Patricia J. Burke of Hubbardson and Lisa M. Burke and her husband Christopher St. Hilaire of Lunenburg; one sister, Francis Govoni and her husband Robert of W. Yarmouth; two grandchildren, Kelson and Carly Burke of Hubbardston; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by one brother, John K. Chaisson.
A "Celebration of Life" in Carol's honor will be private, and held at the convenience of the family.

Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner is assisting the family with the arrangements.
