Carlos Canu, 64, of the Golden Living Center, Fitchburg and formerly of 5 Warwick Rd., Gardner, died Friday, February 17th in St. Vincent Hospital, Worcester, following a brief illness.
Born in Gardner on February 9, 1948, he was the son of John and Florence (Fiandaca) Canu.
Carlos was a millwright employed by Local Union 1121 of Boston working for various contractors.
He was a 1966 graduate of Gardner High School and attended Mount Wachusett Community College, Gardner.
He was a member of Holy Spirit Church. Carlos was a devoted family man and enjoyed watching television and movies. He was a loyal Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots fan.
Carlos was a U.S. Navy Vietnam War Veteran and received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Ribbon with Device.
He leaves two sons, Jamie C. Canu and his wife Annemarie of Gardner; Michael J. Canu of Gardner; 2 brothers, John T. Canu of Clearwater, FL, Ottavio Canu of Gardner; a sister, Joanne Barrett of Gardner; a grandson, Gavin Gabriel Canu of Gardner; 2 aunts; 1 uncle; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and several friends at the Golden Living Center of Fitchburg. He was predeceased by his former wife, Linda T. (Croteau) (Canu) Smith who died in 1998.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 23rd from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols St., Gardner with a Mass at 11:00 a.m. in Holy Spirit Church, 50 Lovewell St., Gardner. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Gardner.
Calling hours at the funeral home are Wednesday, February 22nd from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
