Carl W. Eaton, Jr., 82, of 26 S. Main Street, E. Templeton, died peacefully Monday, December 21st in Heywood Hospital, Gardner, following a brief illness.
Born in Gardner on May 7, 1927, he was the son of the late Carl W. Eaton, Sr. and Anna (Ryan) Eaton.
Prior to retiring in 1983, Carl was the Director of Volunteer Services for the Rutland State Hospital, Gardner State Hospital and Worcester State Hospital for almost 30 years. He was previously employed by Gariepy Wood Products in Ashburnham for 29 years.
Carl was a United States WWII Army Veteran, and served under Major General George Patton. He received the WWII Victory Medal and the Army Occupation Medal with Germany Clasp.
Carl was a member of Holy Cross Church in E. Templeton. He was also a member of the V.F.W. Ovila Case post 905 of Gardner, the Tower Hill Botanical Society in Boylston, MA, the Templeton Historical Association and was the Director of the Narragansett Historical Society.
His hobbies included, bowling, fishing, traveling, camping and woodworking. He was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. Carl was the producer for A.O. Television in Athol and Orange.
He was predeceased by his wife of 54 years, Beatrice Opal (Maillet) Eaton who died February 5, 2006.
Carl leaves three sons, Mark A. Eaton of Nashua, NH, Daniel G. Eaton of Melbourne, FL and Glenn P. Eaton and his wife Victoria of Templeton; one daughter, Carleen A. Meyer of Hope Mills, NC; one brother, Paul Eaton and his wife Hermine of E. Templeton; four grandchildren, Ryan Eaton, Brendan Eaton, Joseph Meyer and Holly Meyer; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by one brother, Francis Ryan and by one sister, Dorothy M. Diemdowicz.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, December 28th from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner with a Mass at 10:30 a.m. in Holy Cross Church, E. Templeton. Burial of ashes will be in Pine Grove Cemetery and Mt. Monadnock at a later date.
Calling hours in the funeral home will be Monday, December 28th from 8:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.
