Billie Ray "Baby Cakes" Bingham, 72, of 23 Williamsville Rd., Hubbardston, and formerly of Newbury, MA, died Sunday, June 13th in Heywood Hospital, Gardner following an illness.
Born in Baxter Springs, Ottawa County, Oklahoma, on June 20, 1931,he was the son of Clarence Ver and Lillie Mae (Clark) Bingham.
He was Admissions Recruiter at St. Michael's College, Winooski Park in Colchester, Vermont for 7 years until retiring in 1999. He served as Director of Guidance at Nashoba Regional High School, Bolton from 1972 to 1992; Vice-President of Student Affairs, Dean of Liberal Studies, Director of Financial Aid and Instructor at Bryant-McIntosh Junior College, Lawrence from 1966 to 1972; Senior Counselor at Masconomet Regional High School, Boxford from 1964 to 1966; Counselor/Teacher at Riverton High School, Riverton, Kansas from 1961 to 1964; Counselor/Teacher at Marion High School, Marion, Kansas from 1960 to 1961; employed by B.F.Goodrich Co., Inc. of Miami, Oklahoma from 1955 to 1961.
Mr. Bingham was a 1949 graduate of Quapaw High School, Quapaw, Oklahoma. He attended Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College, Miami, Oklahoma, received a Bachelor's Degree in Social Science and Masters' Degree in Education from Kansas State College, Pittsburg, KS; and attended Boston University, Boston, MA.
He was a member of Holy Cross Church, East Templeton.
He was a member of the Massachusetts Teachers' Assn. Mr. Bingham enjoyed playing golf, fishing, camping, spending time with his grandchildren and spending time at his cottage at Manomet, MA. He enjoyed going to yard sales, making colonial furniture and restoring colonial homes.
Mr. Bingham was a U.S. Coast Guard Korean War veteran and received the Good Conduct Medal.
He leaves his wife of 49 years, Eileen L. (Fitzgerald) Bingham of Hubbardston; 2 sons, James Dean Bingham and his wife Mary of New Market, NH, Robert Wayne Bingham and his wife Jacqueline of Ashburnham; 1 daughter, Louisa Jean Doyle and her husband Rick of Templeton; 1 sister, Jean Clarice Adams and her husband Paul of Baxter Springs, Kansas; 6 grandchildren, Andrea and Kelley Bingham of New Market, NH, Michael and Patrick Doyle of Templeton, Cassandra and Sean-Ryan Bingham of Ashburnham; 1 aunt, Edna Michener, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 17th at 10:00 a.m. in Holy Cross Church, 25 Lake Ave., East Templeton.
Calling hours at the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols St., Gardner are Wednesday, June 16th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
