Bertha M Hietala

Bertha M. (Saulnier) (Pelletier) Hietala, 88, of Gardner, died peacefully Thursday, April 6, 2017 in her residence, surrounded by family following a long illness.
Born in Gardner on November 1, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Edmond and Justine (Pellerin) Saulnier.
Bertha was employed by Simplex Timer Recorder of Gardner as a printer for 22 years, retiring in 1991.
She was a member of Annunciation Parish/ Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church of Gardner.
Bertha enjoyed playing bingo, and she loved her dog 'Tobie'. She was an avid knitter, who knitted 100 pairs of mittens per year which she donated to local organization. Bertha was a member of A.A.R.P.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Edmond Pelletier and by her second husband William Hietala.
Bertha leaves two sons, George Pelletier and his wife Constance of Templeton and James Saulnier of Gardner; five grandchildren, Shawn Saulnier, John Sund, Scott Sund, Matthew Neely and Michael Neely; one great-grandchild, Lincoln Neely; several nieces, nephews and cousins; special God-daughter, Gloria Jalbert; and very special family friend, Steve Martin whom she considered a son. She also leaves her special caretakers of two years, Clarine Bouchard, Eva Bourgeois, Julie Cormier, Patsy Cormier, Maria Dube, Donna Flemming, Alabertine Gallant, Mary MacIntosh and Alicia Winslow. Bertha was predeceased by her son, Edgar F. Pelletier who died in 2007; grandson, Calvin Neely; six brothers, Alcide, Ronald, Edmond, Normand, Antoine and Hector Saulnier; and four sisters, Lorraine Misner, Irene LeBlanc, Marguerite LeBlanc and Dorris LeBlanc.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, April 11th from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner with a Mass at 11:00 a.m. in Annunciation Parish/Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols Street, Gardner. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Gardner.
A calling hour will be held Tuesday, April 11th from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home.
