Bernice V. "Bernie" (Johnson) Babineau, 87, of 228 Gardner Road, Hubbardston, died suddenly Thursday, June 17th in the Wachusett Manor Nursing Home, Gardner.
Bernice was born in Hubbardston on July 12, 1922, the daughter of the late Ivan A. and Muriel B. (Robbins) Johnson.
Mrs. Babineau graduated from Gardner High School with the Class of 1939.
Prior to retiring, Bernice was a Nurses Aid in the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department of Heywood Hospital, Gardner. She was previously a Nurses Aid at the former Eastwood Pines Nursing Home in Gardner and a sander employed by S. Bent Brothers Company of Gardner. She also cared for many foster babies in her home for several years.
Bernice was a member of Holy Spirit Church, Gardner, and spent her life as a devout Catholic.
Her hobbies included knitting, crocheting, sewing, crossword puzzles, cooking, and playing cards, especially "Rummy". Bernice enjoyed watching the television games shows, Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune on television. She also loved feeding wild birds.
Bernice leaves her husband of 68 years, George J. Babineau of Hubbardston; one son, George R. Babineau and his wife Brenda of Gardner; six daughters, Barbara A. Carpenter and her husband James of Hubbardston, June M. Girouard and her husband Charles of Hubbardson, Linda M. McDonald and her husband Philip of Haines City, FL, Betty J. Smith and her husband Marshall of Gardner, Carol E. Therrien and her husband Kenneth of Ellington, CT and Kathy L. Newton and her husband Robert of Hubbardston; four sisters, Ann LeBlanc of Gardner, Edith M. Erickson of Holyoke, Joan Halfrey of Gardner and Jean Murray and her husband Frances of Gardner; one son-in-law, Glenn Marceau of Hubbardston; 19 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by one daughter, Judith M. Marceau who died May 6, 2008, one sister, Edna M. Miller of East Templeton and one brother, Ivan Johnson.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, June 21st from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner with a Mass at 10:00 00 a.m. in Holy Spirit Church, 50 Lovewell Street, Gardner. Burial will be in Brookside Cemetery, Hubbardston.
A calling hour in the funeral home will be Monday, June 21st from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
