Bernard J."Bernie" Cormier

December 31, 1924 — November 27, 2007

Bernard J. "Bernie" Cormier, 82, of 23 Streeter Road, Hubbardston, and formerly of 155 Park Street, Gardner, died following an illness Tuesday, November 27th in his residence surrounded by his family.

He was born in New Bedford, MA on December 31, 1924, the son of the late Zephir and Odea (Daigle) Cormier.

Mr. Cormier was employed by Massachusetts Electric Co. as a lineman for 30 years, retiring in 1987. He was a volunteer Firefighter for the City of Gardner serving on Ladder #2 from 1950 thru 1974.

He graduated from Gardner High School with the class of 1944, where he was co-captain of the football team.

"Bernie" was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, Gardner. He was a member of the V.F.W. Ovila Case Post 905 Gardner, and a member of the Gardner Bridge Club.

Mr. Cormier was a WWII United States Navy Veteran, and received the American Area Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Area Ribbon, EAME Area Ribbon and the Victory Medal.

He enjoyed golfing and skiing.

"Bernie" was predeceased by his wife of 55 years, Agnes S. (Lamoureux) Cormier, who died May 29, 2000.

He leaves one son, Michael B. Cormier of Hubbardston; one daughter, Susan C. Bradford and her husband Kenneth of Hubbardston; two sisters, Loretta Boudreau and her husband Emery of Pompano Beach, FL and Helena Lavoie and her husband Raymond of Marietta, GA; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a brother, E. Donald Cormier.

Funeral services will be held Friday, November 30th from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner with a Mass at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols Street, Gardner. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Gardner.

Calling hours in the funeral home will be Thursday, November 29th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
