Basile J. Barrieau, 97, 547 Central Street, Winchendon, formerly of 17 Limerick Street, Gardner for over 40 years, died peacefully, Wednesday, February 12, 2014 in the Baldwinville Nursing Home, Baldwinville, following a brief illness.
Born in Acadieville, N.B. Canada on January 6, 1917, he was the son of the late Hubert and Delina (Barrieau) Barrieau.
He was a carpenter for many years, both self-employed and also worked for several local contractors. In his early years he was a lumberjack. Basile also served in the Canadien Army for four years.
He was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church of Gardner.
Basile was a hardworking man who enjoyed gardening, cooking and working in his yard. He was his parents' caretaker for many years. He enjoyed watching television, especially baseball, bowling and "The Price Is Right". Basile loved his Lincoln model cars, especially his 1985 model.
He leaves one brother, Joseph Barrieau and his wife Florine of Gardner; two sister, Virginia Richard of Waltham and Marguerite Vautour of Baldwinville; one sister-in-law, Laudia Barrieau of Bouctouche, N.B., Canada; twenty eight nieces and nephews and several cousins. He was predeceased by three brothers, Francois, Adolphe and Alyre Barrieau.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, February 18th from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner with a Mass at 11:00 a.m. in Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols Street, Gardner. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Gardner at a later date.
A calling hour in the funeral home will be Tuesday, February 18th from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
