Barbara I. (Murphy) Matusiewicz, 88, of 39 High Street, Gardner died Friday, April 6, 2012 in Heywood Hospital, Gardner.
Born in Marlboro on April 21, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Edward T. and Ruth E. (Norcross) Murphy.
Barbara attended Marlboro High School and graduated from Clinton High School with the Class of 1941. She later attended Fitchburg Teachers College in Fitchburg.
Barbara served on the Board of Voter Registration for the City of Gardner for several years, retiring in 2009.
She enjoyed cooking, gardening, reading, playing the piano, doing crossword puzzles, and all types of puzzles. Barbara looked forward to meeting her dogs, Luna and Poochie at the Rainbow Bridge.
She was predeceased by her husband, Leonard A. Matusiewicz, who died in 1999.
Barbara leaves two sons, Raymond L. Matusiewicz and his wife Judith of Hull, MA and Daniel E. Matusiewicz and his wife Dr. Anna Matusiewicz of Ithaca, NY; three daughters, Jean E. Warner and her husband Lawrence Gonynor of Gardner, Sheila B. St. Hilaire and her husband Gerald of Gardner and Kathryn E. Kopito of Gardner; five grandchildren, Sean D. Warner of Gardner, Jennifer Fox of Hull, Alexis Matusiewicz of Ithaca, Kiley Kopito of Gardner, Andrea St. Hilaire-Glenn and her husband Captain Andrew Glenn of Carthage, NC; one great-grandson, Ian Warner of Gardner; one nephew, Russell Hayes of Gardner. She also leaves her special friend, Dot LaRoche of Gardner with whom she shared many wonderful adventures. Barbara was predeceased by her sister, Elizabeth Hayes.
Funeral Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
