Aurise L. Hamel

Aurise L. (Gariepy) Hamel, 94, of 23 Geremonty Drive, Salem, NH and formerly of 104 Church St., Gardner until moving to NH in 2002, died Monday, August 15th in the Salem Haven, NH after a long and healthy life.

Born in Gardner on August 18, 1910, she was the daughter of Louis and Marie Louise (Lavigne) Gariepy.

She was a Licensed Practical Nurse employed at Heywood Hospital for approximately 8 years and also did Private Duty Care. She was previously employed by Simplex Time Recorder Co. of Gardner.

She received her L.P.N. degree at Pondville Hospital of Walpole.

She was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church and was a member of its Ladies of St. Anne Society. She served as secretary and librarian at Hillside Gardens Association of Gardner. She enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, reading, music, and watching The Lawrence Welk Show, Wheel of Fortune and the Arthur Godfrey Show.

Her husband, Armand A. Hamel, died in 1957.

She leaves 3 daughters, Lorraine L. Connors of Coconut Creek, FL, Pauline M. Sokolowski and husband Stanley of Portage, MI, Cecile M. Cormier of Derry, NH; 1 brother, Edmond Gariepy of Gardner; 2 sisters, Jeanne Wironen and Pauline Doiron both of Gardner; 8 grandchildren, Maureen and Daryl Connors, Holly Miller, Janice (Sokolowski) Perkins, Thomas Sokolowski, Melissa Lacroix, Christina Dixon and Monique Lewellen; 10 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by a son, Armand Hamel who died in 1999, 3 brothers Leo and Henry Gariepy, Rev. Aurelius Gariepy, of the Blessed Sacrament Fathers; 2 half-brothers, Henry and Charles Fournier, and 1 half-sister, Yvonne (Fournier) Harper.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 20th from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols St., Gardner with a Mass at 12:00 noon in Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols St., Gardner. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Gardner.

Calling hours at the funeral home are Friday, August 19th from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Saturday, August 20th from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Rosary School or to the St. Vincent de Paul Society, both at 135 Nichols St., Gardner, MA 01440.
