Artur Jose “Arthur” Rodrigues Gaspar, 62, of Baldwinville, died peacefully Monday, February 18, 2019 in Heywood Hospital of Gardner, following an illness.
Born in Mira de Aire, Portugal on July 17, 1956, he was the son of Mercedes (Ramos) Gaspar of Baldwinville and the late Jose Mira Rodrigues.
Artur was educated in Portugal where he became a Federal Police Officer. He was studying to become a Detective prior to meeting his wife and moving to the United States in 1980.
Artur was a Campus Police Sergeant for Mount Wachusett Community College of Gardner for 21 years, retiring in 2012.
He was a member of the former Sacred Heart of Jesus Church of Gardner. Artur was also a member of the Templeton Lions Club, and a volunteer for the Salvation Army.
He enjoyed kayaking, traveling and woodworking. One of his proudest accomplishments was when he participated in a triathlon with his son. He loved spending time with his wife, son and family.
Besides his mother, Artur leaves his wife of 38 years, Maria Adelina “Addie” (Dias) Gaspar of Baldwinville; son, Matthew A. Gaspar of Conway, MA; aunts, Maria Ramos of Switzerland, Irene Ramos of Portugal, Maria Jose Ramos of CT, Saudade Mira Rodrigues of Canada, and Judite Rodrigues of Portugal; sister-in-law Madalena Edwards and her husband Richard of FL; sister-in-law, Maria Helena Dias of Florida; nephew, Kevin Dias and his wife Jewel and their sons, Grayson and Bryce of FL.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, February 23rd from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner with a Mass at 11:00 a.m. in Annunciation Parish/Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols Street, Gardner. Burial will be held in the Spring in Notre Dame Cemetery, Gardner.
A calling hour will be held Saturday, February 23rd from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Forward in Health, 129 Lawrence Street, Gardner, MA 01440. Please reference in memory of Artur Gaspar.
The family would like to extend a special ‘thank you’ to Heywood Hospital Watkins I and II, Heywood Rehab Center and Dr. David Havlin for the excellent care provided to Artur.
