Arthur J. Vautour, 91, of 125 Connors St. and formerly of 180 Greenwood St., Gardner, died suddenly Saturday, May 16th in UMASS Memorial Center, University Campus, Worcester.
Born in St. Ignace, NB, Canada on June 15, 1917, he was the son of Alphonse and Ruphine (Gallant) Vautour. Mr. Vautour came to the United State in 1951 and has lived here since.
He was a shipper employed by S. Bent Co. of Gardner for 33 years until retiring in 1986. He was previously employed as a shipper by Heywood-Wakefield Co. and was a mover employed by People's Fuel Co., both of Gardner.
Arthur was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church. He was a member of the Gardner Golf Club, the Acadien Social Club and the Mount Wachusett Community College Fitness Center. He was a loyal fan of the Boston Red Sox, Boston Bruins and the New England Patriots. Mr. Vautour enjoyed walking, golfing and especially spending time with his family.
His wife of 48 years, Ernestine M. (Daigle) Vautour died in 2000.
He leaves 3 sons, Paul J. Vautour and his wife Patricia of Westminster, Norman J. Vautour and his wife Kathy of Wisconsin, Claude J. Vautour and his wife JoAnne of Gardner; 5 brothers, Francois Vautour of Gardner, Delphin Vautour, Edward Vautour, Camille Vautour all of St. Ignace, NB, Canada, Ernest Vautour of Oshawa, Ontario; 5 sisters, Laurianne Richard, Lydia Richard both of St. Anne, NB, Canada, Marie Robichaud of St.Charles, NB, Canada, Sister Leanore Vautour with the Sisters of Notre Dame in Pictou, NS, Canada, Gemma Comeau of St. Ignace, NB, Canada; 3 grandchildren, Katie, Ross and Travis Vautour; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a daughter, Diane M. Vautour of Gardner who died in 2005 and 2 sisters, Edna Daigle and Sister Zelia Vautour.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 20th from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols St., Gardner with a Mass at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols St., Gardner. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Gardner.
Calling hours at the funeral home are Tuesday, May 19th from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
