Arthur S. "Art" Hines, 76, of 50 King Phillip Trail, Templeton, died peacefully Saturday, June 20th in his residence surrounded by his family.
Born in Templeton on November 14, 1932, he was the son of the late Ronald and Elizabeth (Snow) Hines.
Prior to retiring in 2001, Mr. Hines was a Sales Engineer employed for 33 years by Blanchard Machine Co. of Cambridge, MA and also of Windsor, VT. He was previously employed by Heald Machine Company of Worcester, MA.
Arthur was graduated from Templeton High School, Templeton with the Class of 1951. He attended Worcester Trade School, Worcester, and graduated from Worcester Jr. College, Worcester in 1957.
Arthur was a United States Korean War Army Veteran, and received the Korean Service Medal and the National Defense Medal.
He was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Gardner, and was Senior Warden for four years, was on the Property Committee, was Assistant Treasurer and was a member of the church choir.
Arthur was a member of the Lodge of Elks #1426 of Gardner and the American Legion, Roger P. Warfield, Post 373 of Baldwinville. He was a member North Quabbin Lodge of Masons of Athol, and received his 50 year pin.
Arthur's hobbies were fishing, gardening, traveling and cooking. He enjoyed going out for lunch every Friday. He was an avid sports fan, enjoying the Boston Red Sox, the New England Patriots and attending the sporting events of his grandchildren. He was a builder, and built his own home in 1962. He was lovingly known as the family GPS pilot. Arthur was a family man, who treasured his home and family.
Arthur was predeceased by his wife of 51 years, Kathleen L. (Hunter) Hines, who died March 8, 2008.
He leaves two sons, Michael A. Hines of Holyoke and James A. Hines of Templeton; two daughters, Cynthia M. Flanagan and her husband Sean of Templeton and Debra A. Bettez of Gardner; six grandchildren, Bryan J. Coe, Jr., Timothy A. Coe, Joshua A. Bettez, Sarah E. Bettez, Robert J. Bettez, III and Cassandra M. Hines; five great-grandchildren, Zachary A. Coe, Cassie Girouard, Dylan A. Coe, Kaylee Coe and Jaiden Fitzgerald; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Arthur was predeceased by two brothers, William Hines who died in 1991 and Ronald C. Hines who died in 2002; one sister, Irene E. Yakstis who died in 2003; one granddaughter, Faith Ann Bettez who died in 1994 ; and by one great-great grandson, Nathanial T. Coe who died in 2009.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 25th from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner with a Service at 11:00 a.m. in St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 79 Cross Street, Gardner. Rev. William Hobbs will officiate. Burial will be in the MA Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Winchendon.
Calling hours in the funeral home will be Wednesday, June 24th from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The Lodge of Masons Ritual will be held at 7:00 p.m. and the Gardner Lodge of Elks, #1426 Ritual will be held at 7:30 p.m.
