Antonio M. "Tony" Backherms Jr., 12, of 82 School Street, Gardner died Sunday, June 30, 2013 in his residence following a long illness.
Born in Brockton, MA on November 9, 2000, he was the son of Antonio M. Backherms, Sr. and Elizabeth (Beley) Tatro.
At the time of his death, Antonio was a High Honor student at Gardner Middle School.
He enjoyed playing video games, painting, fishing, art and reading Harry Potter books. He had a great sense of humor and loved to joke around. He was recently named Honorary President of the Patriot Riders Chapter 3 Club and also participated in the Gardner Relay for Life.
He leaves his mother, Liz (Beley) Tatro and stepfather, Chris Tatro of Gardner; his father Antonio M. Backherms, Sr. of Bridgewater; one brother, Gabriel A. Tatro of Gardner; two sisters, Isabella L. Tatro and Chloe A. Tatro both of Gardner; grandparents, Carol Gannon and Eric Beley of Wilton, NH; step-grandparents Tracey M. (Rocheleau) Johnston and Wayne Johnston of Gardner; his Meme, Patricia Coderre of Winchendon; great-grandfather, Herbert W. Gannon of Fitzwilliam, NH; aunts and uncles, Amanda Brower, Richard Brower, Cheryl Beley, Robert Beley, Alexis Imbriani, Mike Imbriani, Elizabeth Canuto and Louisa Canuto; ten cousins, Daemon, Xavier, Zackary, Andrew, Owen, Phoenix, Dante, Lily, Jayden and Isabella. Antonio also leaves his best friend since first grade, Sydney Meyers and many additional extended family members. He was predeceased by his paternal grandmother, Barbara (Donnelly) Canuto and his Pepere, Alfred Rocheleau.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, July 4th at 1:00 p.m. in the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Gardner, at a later date.
Calling hours will be Thursday, July 4th from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Patriot Riders Chapter 3 Club, c/o Jack McGrath or Jason Bourgeois, 63 Leamy Street, Gardner, MA 01440, so that they many continue with their mission of helping other families.
