Anthony "Tony" Lafond, age 69, of Ashburnham, MA, passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, April 12, 2016.
Tony was born in Winchendon, MA on September 15, 1946, the son of the late Jerome Lafond and Christine (Pollick) LeClair.
Following graduation from Gardner High School with the Class of 1964, Tony entered the U.S. Coast Guard serving as a sonar man on the USCGC Yakutat. He was awarded the Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal and Vietnam Service Medal.
He was employed as a Field Service Engineer for Barkley and Dexter Co., Loma Systems, and Lock Inspection Systems, Inc. for a span of 40 years. He traveled extensively throughout the United States.
Tony loved being out in nature where he enjoyed hiking, camping, canoeing and trips to the White Mountains. He was very innovative and took pleasure in creating and building. With his adventurous spirit, he built snow slides and skating rinks for winter fun with his family. In later years he created his "bullet slide," a backyard ice luge. Other interests included candle-pin bowling and spending time listening to music. Tony also had a keen interest and knowledge of astronomy and cosmology.
A loving and caring husband and father, Tony was patient, kind and steadfast. With great resolve, he was always there to lend a hand. Time with his family was most precious and brought him the greatest joy. He will therefore, be profoundly missed and lovingly remembered.
Tony leaves his beloved wife of 39 years, Jackie (Boone) Lafond; two sons, Curtis Lafond and his wife, Erin of Templeton and Ross Lafond of Dorchester; his daughter, Jennifer Lafond and significant other, Patrick Riggs of Fitchburg; two sisters, Joyce Boutwell and her husband, Donald of Gardner; Gerri Saari and her husband, Edward of Gardner; two grandchildren, Marshall Lafond and William Lafond; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, April 19th at 12:00 p.m. in the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner.
Calling hours will be held Tuesday, April 19th from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
